Koolunga Battery Energy Storage System
GreenPoint Energy is developing a 200MW/800MWh Battery in Koolunga to help provide South Australia with reliable energy and decrease dependency on fossil fuels.

GreenPoint completed its first community drop-in session on the 29th of March 2023 at Brinkworth Recreation Ground Club Rooms between 3pm and 7pm.
The proposed Koolunga Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is located approximately 1.1km northeast of the Brinkworth Substation on Koolunga Road. The BESS has a battery energy storage capacity up to 200MW and discharge capacity up to 800MW which is enough power to supply electricity for up to 26,000 homes for four hours.
The BESS site will be connected to South Australia’s electricity grid via an underground transmission cable that connects to the 275kV Brinkworth Substation. The project will help to secure South Australia’s future electricity demands.
The Koolunga Battery Energy Storage System will allow for increased solar and wind energy to be integrated into the grid helping to reduce volatility and put downward pressure on electricity prices.
THE LOCAL
COMMUNITY
AND

AND
ENVIRONMENT

GreenPoint has engaged specialist consultants to assess potential environmental impacts and engage with the local community.
The State Planning Commission is the relevant authority for the assessment of this application as the proposed development involves an electricity generating plant with a generating capacity of 5 MW or above connected to the State’s power system.
The Project was granted planning consent on the 10th August 2023.
GreenPoint Energy supporting local skills, jobs andopportunity in Port Pirie
GreenPoint Energy is committed to supporting local skills, training and employment pathways in the communities where we work.
In Port Pirie, we are proud to support the next intake ofthe Heavy Industry Multi Skills Program, a 12-week industry-led program thathelps local disadvantaged and disengaged jobseekers prepare for entry-levelroles in mining, construction, manufacturing and engineering.
The program has already supported more than 120 localjobseekers, with more than 100 graduates and 80% of graduates moving intoemployment within the sector.
The next intake is expected to support 16 local participantsfrom Port Pirie and surrounding communities, including First Nations students, female participants, young jobseekers and people returning to work or changingcareer pathways.
Through this support, GreenPoint Energy is helping reducebarriers to participation and strengthen local workforce pathways for the region.
Staying safe on site
An exciting milestone for our Koolunga BESS project, with GreenPoint Energy, Genus, Tesla and ElectraNet coming together to sign ourproject Safety Charter.
The charter reflects a shared commitment to collaboration, safety, respect and innovation at our latest 200MW BESS. This type of teamwork sets a strong foundation for safe and responsible project delivery.
Thank you to all project partners for helping embed safetyas a priority across the Koolunga BESS site.
